INFORMATION SESSION IN BARYSHIV COMMUNITY

Representatives of the Baryshiv community (Brovary district, Kyiv region) joined the information session of the Association of Women Ambassadors of Ukraine.

The participants also took part in a survey to identify the key skills that women need to master on their way to economic independence.

Community representatives believe that financial self-sufficiency is the key skill. Therefore, the head of the organization, Olha Veselovska, who has two academic degrees (PhD in Economics and MBA from Sheffield University UK), elaborated on this issue.

Four basic skills that will help women build financial self-sufficiency:

• Keep monthly records of family income and expenses.
• Live debt-free, according to personal means.
• Be prepared for unexpected expenses and plan for the future.
• Follow the trends in the financial sector.

Olga emphasizes: “These rules seem as simple as possible. But according to statistics, only one in ten women keeps records of income and expenses. We teach the basics of financial literacy so that women and girls can keep track of their family’s budget, have no debts, avoid falling into credit holes, and know how to save and invest.”

As a result of the meeting, it was planned to involve women and girls in the community in educational programs, including financial literacy.
